Four People Found Dead in Terrell on Christmas Eve

TERRELL, Texas — Police in this North Texas community responded to a welfare check on the 200 block of Rash Lane shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and discovered four people dead inside a residence, authorities said. Officers found all four individuals unresponsive and pronounced them deceased at the scene. Initial findings suggest that three died from gunshot wounds and the fourth from a self‑inflicted gunshot, indicating an apparent murder‑suicide, officials said.

The Terrell Police Department described the incident as occurring in what appears to be an isolated event, and there is no known ongoing threat to the public. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the deaths.

Victims Identified by Police

Police later confirmed the identities of three of the victims. They include 66‑year‑old Philip Dale Humphrey of Kaufman, 62‑year‑old Sherry Lynn Bostick of Terrell, and a 12‑year‑old boy from Wills Point whose name is being withheld at the family’s request. Investigators said all three were found to have fatal gunshot wounds.

The fourth person was identified as 38‑year‑old Casey Dale Humphrey of Forney. Police determined he died of a self‑inflicted gunshot wound, and detectives believe he was responsible for fatally shooting the other three before taking his own life. Authorities have not publicly stated the relationship between Casey Humphrey and the other victims, and the motive for the killings remains under investigation.

Family members and neighbors alike expressed shock at the tragic scene. Relatives of the 12‑year‑old boy released a brief statement through police, saying they were “heartbroken” and asking for privacy as they cope with the loss. A neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said the community was still coming to terms with the news.

Police Investigation Ongoing

The Terrell Police Department said it is continuing to gather evidence, conduct interviews, and review forensic findings as part of the active investigation. Detectives urged anyone with information that could assist in piecing together the events leading up to the incident to contact the department at 469‑474‑2700. Authorities are also reviewing surveillance footage from the area and canvassing the neighborhood for potential witnesses.

Officials have stressed there is no indication of further danger to the public at this time. The department has asked residents to allow investigators to complete their work without interference and to contact police with any relevant details, even if they seem minor.

Community Reaction and Support

News of the four deaths on a holiday evening has left residents in shock. Many said they struggled to understand how such a tragedy could unfold in their quiet neighborhood. Some community members placed flowers and candles near the home, expressing sorrow and solidarity for the families affected.

Local leaders extended condolences to the families and reminded citizens about available mental health and support resources. They emphasized the importance of community members looking out for one another and being aware of signs that someone may be struggling or in crisis.

While investigators continue their work to determine why the incident occurred, police reiterated that they believe the deaths stemmed from a personal matter and not a threat to public safety. Further updates are expected as the department gathers more details and completes the investigation.
