Chicago police are investigating a drive-by shooting that wounded two people Sunday night in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the city’s Southwest Side. The shooting occurred around 9:23 p.m. in the 3300 block of South Western Avenue near 33rd Street, according to law enforcement officials.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire involving occupants of a moving vehicle. When they arrived, they found a man and a woman who had been struck by gunfire while driving. Police said a dark-colored sport utility vehicle pulled up alongside the victims’ car and someone inside fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene.

Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects, and an investigation is underway to determine what led to the shooting. 

Victims’ Conditions

The two victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment following the shooting. Police identified the victims as a 37-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman. The woman was shot in the back and arm and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, according to police statements.
