1 Killed, 3 Injured in Washington Park Shooting in Chicago
One man was killed and three others were injured in a drive-by shooting in Chicago's Washington Park neighborhood. Police are investigating.

One man was killed and three others were injured in a drive-by shooting in Chicago's Washington Park neighborhood on Thursday night, July 16, 2026.

Gunfire Erupts Near CTA Station

According to the Chicago Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 9:01 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue, near the 51st Green Line CTA station.

Investigators said a black vehicle pulled alongside a group of people standing outside when a passenger opened fire into the crowd. The vehicle then fled eastbound on 51st Street.

Police recovered more than 60 rifle shell casings from the scene.

Four Men Shot

A 44-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he later died.

Three other victims survived their injuries:

  • A 54-year-old man was shot in the body and remains in good condition.
  • A 35-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.
  • A 34-year-old man was shot in the legs and is also in good condition.

Investigation Continues

No arrests have been announced.

Area One/Wentworth detectives are leading the investigation as authorities work to identify the suspects and locate the vehicle involved.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
