2-year-old boy killed in Frankfort home

A 2-year-old boy was killed in an apparent domestic-related incident at a Frankfort, Illinois, home on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call shortly after 4 p.m. about an unresponsive child at a home in the 22700 block of Brook Stone Court.

The Incident

First responders found the toddler unresponsive inside the home and began emergency medical treatment. He was transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where he was pronounced dead.

The Will County Coroner’s Office later conducted an autopsy and determined that the child’s death appeared to be a homicide. Officials said the final cause and manner of death remain pending additional reports.

The investigation is being treated as a domestic-related homicide.

Mother Hospitalized

Police also found the child’s mother inside the residence with injuries that authorities described as the result of an apparent attempt to harm herself. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities said her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police have not released additional details about what happened inside the home or identified a motive. Officials also have not announced any charges in connection with the child’s death.

The Frankfort Police Department is leading the investigation with assistance from the Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
