An unidentified woman was stopped by private security personnel after allegedly entering the Malibu property of former Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, on Friday night, September 11, 2026.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m., when the woman reportedly entered the property but was intercepted before reaching the residence, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and a spokesperson for Harris. Neither Harris nor Emhoff was at the home at the time.
The Brief
Harris’ security personnel contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after the woman was seen on the property. Deputies from the Malibu-Lost Hills station responded and spoke with the unidentified individual.
The woman agreed to leave voluntarily and was not arrested. Authorities filed a trespassing report and said patrols around the property would be increased as a precaution.
Eduardo Negrón, a spokesperson for Harris, said security personnel stopped the individual before she reached the home. He added that Harris and Emhoff were grateful for the quick response from security staff and law enforcement.
What We Know
The incident has renewed attention on the security arrangements surrounding Harris after changes to her federal protection.
Former vice presidents generally receive six months of Secret Service protection after leaving office. Former President Joe Biden had extended Harris’ protection beyond that period, but President Donald Trump revoked the extension in August 2025.
Following the change, California and local law enforcement agencies became involved in providing security assistance. The Los Angeles Police Department previously helped with protective duties but later ended its involvement amid criticism that officers were being diverted from regular crime-fighting responsibilities.
The California Highway Patrol has continued to assist with Harris’ security arrangements. However, CHP officials said state officers were not physically present at the Malibu property when Friday night’s incident occurred.
What’s Next
The woman’s identity and reason for entering the property have not been publicly disclosed. No injuries were reported, and no arrest was made.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it would increase patrols in the private Malibu neighborhood following the incident.
